Lyrics and Misheard Lyrics

There is freedom within
There is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup

I love the above lined from Don't Dream It's Over. I have an extremely long history of ear infections and probably CAPD, at least intermittently because sometimes when I'm tired it takes a second or two tp register what someone said to me such that it hits my brain about the time I'm done saying "What did you say?"

So I have a long history of mishearing lyrics and I spent a lot of years sincerely believing musicians were all higher than a kite anytime they wrote anything because the misheard lyrics painted a psychedelic vision of a world where musicians had incredibly wild imaginations.

I'm healthier than I used to be and as I've gotten healthier, I began hearing lyrics more accurately which changed my perception of music and musicians and sometimes left me missing the more psychedelic and visionary snippets I imagined I heard.

In the above song, there's a passage that says
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win

I used to believe they were saying Let it come, let it come. Don't build a wall between us. rather than they come, they come to build a wall between us. I still prefer my imagined version of the song.
